Malicious Software - What Is It - And Can We Deal With It ?
Malicious Software Infectious prgrams, created with malicious intent have been present from the time softwares came into existence. The biggest one that came in 1999 was called Melissa and caused havoc worldwide was more of a prank , albeit a malicious one. However, as computers improved and the software manufacturers became smarter and unfortunately more malicious. He intent became more and more hostile, causing data corruption, and vandalization of websites. Some malicious softwares would completely destroy files that existed in hard disks, or destroy some of the more important ones, thereby rendering the hard disk unusable. Some would enter junk data into the computers and thus corrupt the existing data, once again just being malicious and harmful. However, the unfortunate development that has occurred once broadband came into existence, has been the invention of malicious software that was designed to make profit. This software takes control of the users computer and then continues to misuse the data available in the computers. This kind of malicious software has caused severe harm to users and has become even more difficult to control. The new malicious softwares can indulge in various acts using your computer. They can send email spasm using all the email addresses present in your computer, thereby adding to the spam mess in worldwide web, and making you a very unpopular person among your email friends. They can use your computer to host data such as child pornography, whereby unknowingly you are indulging in an illegal act. They can access your bank accounts, and since most of us deal in Netbanking, this can cause a great deal of financial losses to us. Most banks do build strong firewalls to safeguard their sites, but when you enter your Netbanking site, this malicious software may be marking your footprints. Malicious software comes in various forms. It may be present in the form of a virus or a worm. A virus software, when it is run spreads in the manner of a virus to other softwares in your computer, thereby causing harm to all your software. A worm may spread itself to other computers, when you send them an email or a document, or when you are working on a network. It may be there in the form of a Trojan – whereas it may come as an added attachment to any software that you download – unasked and unwanted, hence the term – Trojan Horse. The variations are many, but then so are the solutions. The internet is full of solutions, easy to access and easy to use.
